 Although there are plenty of good hotels spread around the city, it is the tourist accommodation within the Jaisalmer Fort that stands out. Many consider that lodging at one of the hotels inside the Jaisalmer Fort is rather romantic, although these days, the local authorities are trying to persuade visitors to stay elsewhere, since the fort's overall infrastructure is slowly beginning to subside.
When staying at hotels in central Jaisalmer, there are a few things to bear in mind. Firstly, if your accommodation is beyond the main square, it will not be accessible by motorised traffic, since this entire area is pedestrianised. However, most hotels within this maze of alleys are rarely more than a ten-minute walk away. Secondly, much of the accommodation in Jaisalmer favours very early check-outs, often at just 09:00.

The price of available rooms varies greatly within the city, fluctuating according to demand. Therefore, it there is a festival in Jaisalmer when you arrive, then you can expect most hotels to put their prices up. However, during the slowest of periods, this discounts can be substantial. Be a little wary of the cheapest hotels in central Jaisalmer, since these knockdown prices are often just a means to entice you to also book a pricey camel safari through them, and this can involve some rather high-pressure selling, so you will need to make it clear early on if you are not interested.
 There is a definite cluster a very affordable and popular hotels located on the northern side of the Gandhi Chowk, suiting those looking for budget lodging, and around Bera Road and Shiv Road, where the Shahi Palace is a noteworthy mid-range option, boasting good views of the Jaisalmer Fort.
Within Jaisalmer Fort itself, the cheapest accommodation options include the Hotel Simla, the Ganesh Guest House, and the Hotel Desert, the latter of which features impressive views from its rooftop restaurant. Luxury fort accommodation include the Hotel Jaisal Castle, where rooms overlook the desert, and the historical Hotel Suraj, which dates back some 500 years and resides next to the Shreenath Palace.
